The KielSCN at the Museumsnacht Kiel on August 30th
Insights into the World of Visual Science Communication
On Friday, August 30, KielSCN will part of the Museumsnacht Kiel. At Kiel University’s Medical and Pharmaceutical History Collection visitors can enjoy insights into the collaboration with the practice partner Spektrum der Wissenschaft from 7 pm onwards. Anyone interested can learn more about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of data visualization as well as exploring the Midjourney Style Tuner to change images according to personal preferences.
Using AI-generated Images in the Field of Data Visualization
Artificial intelligence (AI) opens up new ways of presenting scientific data in a way that is not only informative but also emotionally appealing. As part of an exploratory design study by the KielSCN and the science magazine “Spektrum der Wissenschaft”, researchers are investigating the transformative role of AI in improving data visualization. How can the use of AI-generated images work and how can different visualization techniques influence the attention of readers?
Visualization of the Prevalence of Depression in Europe
The exploratory design study focuses on a jointly developed and published visualization of the prevalence of depression in Europe, i.e. the total number of cases of the disease in the population under consideration at a point in time or during a certain period of time. All information is based on data from the European Health Interview Survey (EHIS), a health survey conducted in all EU member states and some other European countries in 2019, in which respondents indicated whether they had suffered from depression or observed various symptoms of the illness in the past 12 months.
The visualization was created within an interview entitled Depression. The long shadow of society (in German only) published by Spektrum der Wissenschaft.
